Can I Change The Colors On A Canva Template?
Change colors in Canva by selecting the element you want to change and using the color palette box on the left.
Canva is fantastic graphic design software that makes content creation easier than ever.
Regardless of whether you’re a small business owner looking to create a brand image, or you’re a social media influencer looking to create a specific aesthetic on your blog, one of the easiest ways that you can build a consistent brand image is through the use of colors.
Though Canva comes with a variety of templates intended to help get you started in the world of graphic design, sometimes the colors may not be to your liking, or may not work with the colorway you use on your Instagram feed, blog, or website.
Never fear, though, because it is possible to change the colors on a Canva template (among other things) and we’re going to show you exactly how to do it below. Let’s take a look!
1. How to change colors on a Canva template:
If you have found the perfect template for the visual that you want to create, but don’t like the colors that have been used, then customizing the colors couldn’t be easier!
To do this, all you will need to do is to double click on the font, border, or shape that you want to change color, and Canva will bring up a little tool section.
As soon as Canva displays this on your screen (if you’re using Canva on your smartphone via the app, then you will see the toolbox on the bottom of your screen) scroll across until you see the color palette, and from there you will be able to switch up the color to suit your taste.
As a side note, if you are interested in building your very own theme, then Canva has a feature that will allow you to build your very own color palette.
This will come in very handy for those who want to maintain consistency and use the same colors across all of their designs and makes editing and creating new content easier, as you won’t have to go to the trouble of trying to match colors.
Alternatively, if you’re just getting started and want to make things even easier, Canva has a variety of template themes that you can choose from while building your brand.
These theme packs come with their own font and 6 colors, and they are very popular for people that want their brand or blog to have a specific colorway but would like a little inspiration in choosing what colors to use.
What’s more, as soon as you have selected which theme you would like to use, Canva will then give you the option of making it a default theme for all future content you create, which we think is super helpful and time-saving.
2. How to change template fonts:
After you have figured out how to change your Canva template’s colors, then the next thing you’re likely going to want to do is to figure out how to change the template font, especially if you don’t like the one that it currently has.
Keeping fonts totally consistent across all of your social media channels is extremely important if you want to maintain a consistent look, so we strongly recommend that you take some time to decide which type of font you like prior to using one.
If you begin to use a font and then suddenly decide that you don’t like it anymore, switching it over can be off-putting to customers/readers who are already familiar with your brand and can look mismatched and messy to new shoppers or followers.
Like we mentioned above, Canva gives you the option to choose from a variety of theme packs that come with default fonts that you can then use across all of the content that you create.
However, if you want to be entirely original and choose your own font alongside colors, then you can easily pick one from the vast range of options available in Canva’s font section.
You can either change the font by double-clicking on the font already within the template, or you can choose to insert a text box, which will also allow you to choose a font.
Both methods will bring up that same tool section we mentioned earlier, and all you will need to do is scroll along until you find the font section, and then you can explore the dropdown menu of fonts until you find the one that you like and want to use.
Additionally, Canva also provides you with the ability to customize fonts and make them totally unique.
Not only are you able to change their color, but you can also make fonts bold, italicized, and even choose to insert a variety of shadow effects that will give your fonts a unique and stylish appearance exclusive to you and your brand.
Impressive or what?
3. How to change template images:
If you’re using a template as a foundation to build your own content, then it’s highly likely that you’re going to need to delete the default images that are included within it, so that you can swap them out for images of your own.
The easiest way to do this is to simply double tap on the image and then click on “replace” in which Canva will bring up the option to select images from your library.
Once you have your own images in the template, you’ll then be free to drag and drop them wherever you please, as well as to increase or decrease the size of them however you like.
Canva also gives you the ability to add eye-catching overlays to your pictures, add a variety of shadow effects to really help them to stand out, as well as the option to add borders.
If you really wanted to get creative, then you could choose to insert a variety of cool stickers and images from Canva’s “Elements” folder.
As an example, let’s say that you wanted to create a scrapbook aesthetic, all you would need to do is head over to the elements menu, type in “scrapbook” and then Canva would bring up a variety of relevant stickers.
You could insert tape and pins and insert them directly over the images, in order to make it appear as though you have actually stuck them down. The possibilities are truly endless when it comes to Canva!
