Canva is a free and online design tool where you can create videos on a number of devices.

With Canva, there is no software to download and you do not need to have years of experience in video editing to use it. You simply pick a video template, then customize how you wish.

All of this results in professional-level videos without the added cost of a professional videographer. When you’re finished, simply download your video and share it on social media. 

Can I Upload a Video to Canva?

Canva has an extensive library of images and videos, but you can still upload your own video and images into Canva’s editor. You can also trim, edit, and add filters to your clips, choose your own color scheme and background, and even apply animations and stickers.

You can also add music to a video, by opening up your video in an editor, importing your media, and adjusting the audio. Most of the tools let you edit the audio so that the music plays at different times in certain sections, or throughout the whole video. 

The recommended video file formats for Canva are MP4 (which allows for high quality and smaller file sizes), AVI (which uses less compression and allows larger file sizes), WMV for Windows applications, and MKV which incorporates audio, video, and subtitles into a single file.

You can also import media from your cloud drives, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, or Hubspot. You can also import media from your social media accounts, such as Facebook and Instagram. Just follow the below steps:

• Open or create an existing design.
• Click the ⋯ More tab from the side panel.
• Select the app you want to use.
• Click ‘Connect’ or ‘Connect your account.’
• Log in on the prompt that will appear, and allow Canva to access your content. 

Once you have connected your chosen app to Canva, your folders and media files will appear on the side panel. Simply click on a video or image to add to your design.

If you would like to revoke app access, you can update this by visiting your Account Settings page. 

Remember, you can only upload content that you own and are licensed to use. You can find out more in Section 4.2 of Canva’s Terms of Use.

Also, make sure that your files meet Canva’s upload requirements. They are as follows:

• For JPEG, PNG, and HEIC/HEIF, and WEBP images – under 25MB in size, no more than 100 million total pixels (width x height), and, for WEBP images, only static images are currently supported.
• For SVG images – Under 3MB in size (or under 10MB for Canva Contributors), between 150 to 200 pixels wide, and saved with an SVG Profile of “SVG 1.1.”

Also, you must always:

• Expand all strokes, paths, and text boxes (Select your artwork > Object > Expand).
• Group shapes together that are the same color. 
• Avoid using textures and gradients. 
• Fit the artwork within the artboard (Object > Artboards > Fit to Selected Art). 
• Remove layers and stray anchor points you don’t need, and also remove invisible objects.
• If you create an SVG file using Adobe Illustrator, change the CSS Properties to Presentation Attributes before saving. 

For audio, you must use an M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, or WEBM file format, and they must not be larger than 250MB.

For videos, you must use a MOV, GIF, MP4, MPEG, MKV, or WEBM file format, and the files must be less than GB in size. If you’re using Canva’s free service then you will be asked to compress the file if it’s between 250MB and GB.

Canva doesn’t support Apple Intermediate, ProRes 4444, HDV 720p60, Go2Meeting3 (G2M3), Go2Meeting4 (G2M4), or videos with transparent background. However, you can upload them as GIFs if they’re short enough. 

Does Canva Have Video Templates?

Although it may only be a few short seconds of your video, a well-made intro is important for a number of reasons. It draws your audience in, sets the tone, and also gives the audience an idea of who you are, establishing brand recall.

You don’t need to have experience using complicated designing tools or spend a lot of time learning how to use them, as Canva has easy-to-use text and photo tools waiting for you. With just a few clicks you can create an impressive video intro!

Canva’s Youtube video templates, for example, are a great time-saving way to create video intros so you can focus on the actual content.

Not only do they come with stock photos and appealing fonts, but you can also include your logo in your design. Canva Animator also brings your design to life with bounce, slide, and fade effects. 

Canva is also collaborator-friendly. Just send the link to your design to your collaborator and they can edit your design, or add comments.

Once you’re finished, you can download the finished product either as a video or an animated clip. 

 

How Do I Add a Video Template to Canva?

Videos will not be available if you’re designing on a partner website through the Canva Button.

However, to add videos to your designs you can do the following:

• Use a video template.
• Click Templates from the top navigation bar found on the homepage.
• Use the search bar to find video templates, or select the Videos tab. For example, users of Canva for Education can use these templates for their ‘about me’ videos.
• Click the template that you want to use.
• Click Use this Template to start designing. 

To replace the videos on the template, click the Videos or Uploads tab from the side panel, and drag the video that you want to use to the video that you want to replace. From here you can also crop and trim the video. 

To add videos from Canva’s library you can do the following:

• Open or create an existing design.
• Click the Videos tab from the editor side panel.
• Click ‘See All’ next to a category to see the videos available. Or, you can type keywords into the search bar and hit Return or Enter on your keyboard to search for videos. Free videos are tagged ‘FREE’ while premium ones are tagged with a crown symbol (♛).  However, if you’re a user of Canva Pro, Canva for Enterprise, Canva for Education, and Canva for Non-profit then you have free access to all videos. 
• Click on a video to add it to your design.

To add your uploaded videos:

• Open or clock on an existing design.
• Click the Uploads tabs from the Editor side panel.
• Click the Upload Media button, and select the videos you want to upload. Or, you can upload the files by dragging them to the Uploads tab.
• Click on an uploaded video to add it to your design. 

How Do I Edit Video with Canva?

Editing videos with Canva is incredibly easy, whether you’re using the desktop or mobile application.

Scenes are split into ‘pages’ on Canva, so an important first step is to decide how you want each scene (or ‘page’) to look. If you want the same background throughout the video, then all you need to do is duplicate the pages.

You can then upload videos from either your own device or Canva’s video library. To cut certain videos or trim them down, simply use the trim tool (the icon of which is a pair of scissors). 

To add audio to the video, you can search for music by clicking on the music tab. This takes you to the track library where you can search for music that suits the theme of your video.

You can preview tracks, and as the music is playing you will notice a gradient effect.

Much like trimming the videos, you can use this to select sections of the music you would like to use, and edit tracks to make sure they fit the length of your video.

How Do I Speed Up My Video on Canva?

Speeding up or slowing down videos on Canva is very easy. 

First, select or upload a video and then upload (or drag and drop) it into your graphic. You can then adjust the speed by using a sliding tool that will slow the video down or speed the video up. 

Once you’ve sped it up, remember to download it as an individual page. 

How Long Can A Canva Video Be?

A Canva video can be as long as you want – there are no limits! However, if you’re incorporating audio, pay attention to the tracks you use. Timing is key.

For example, if your video is 5 minutes long but your audio is only 4 minutes,  then there will be a bit of awkward silence at the end.
